Gua Sha

Gua Sha is an East Asian technique that is used to reduce pain, stiffness, fatigue, insomnia, tension, and scar tissue, to increase mobility, to remove stagnant blood, lymh fluid, Qi (energy) and metabolic wastes, and to help maintain healthy circulation throughout the body. It can also be used to treat and prevent the common cold, flu, and bronchitis.

GuaSha

The application of this technique is done by first applying a light layer of oil to the skin. Next the therapist will use a thin, flat tool with a rounded edges a few inches in size and apply pressure in motions over the skin. This technique is used for the full body lymph detox and facial rejuvenation massage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you perform your treatments?

We have a private residential studio but we are also happy to travel to you so you can enjoy a relaxing session in the comfort of your own home.

In home massage is available within a 25 mile radius of Minneapolis, requires a room that is clean and has an open working space of 6’ by 8’, and is a non-smoking home.

What makes you different than other massage therapists?
My custom designed sessions address the root of your concerns and can provide lasting relief that you may not have had success with elsewhere.
What makes Shiatsu different than other forms of massage?
Shiatsu incorporates comfortable stretching and range of motion techniques as well as acupressure techniques using fingers and palms that are typically not found in other therapies. Shiatsu is “clothes-on” therapy so wearing loose, comfortable clothes like sweat pants or yoga pants will make your experience more enjoyable. Because Shiatsu moves a lot of toxins out of the muscles, drink 1-2 liters of water, try to relax the rest of the day and, if possible, take a bath with sea salt and essential oils.
How would Craniosacral Therapy help me?

Craniosacral addresses the flow of cerebral-spinal fluid, the deepest system in the body. The optimization of this system helps to reduce headaches and migraines and other discomfort from head and spine trauma.

If I don’t have head or back issues, is Craniosacral still worth receiving?

Yes! Even if you don’t have any specific issues that Craniosacral is great for addressing, you will still feel deeply relaxed, refreshed and clear headed.

Does Gua Sha assist other forms of detoxing?
Yes! My Lymph Detoxing technique using Gua Sha works great with other cleanses or detoxing to deepen the effects and help to reset the body’s organ systems.
Is Cupping Therapy painful?
Cupping uses “negative” pressure or pulls the skin and muscles away from the body, so it does feel different than other forms of bodywork. Even though cupping can leave temporary circles of coloration on the skin, the treatment itself is not painful.
Testimonials
IntraAwareness Review
— Chris H. Dwyer, D.C.
Lakeside Chiropractic
As a doctor of chiropractic, I often have discomforts develop in my upper back and neck from the physical and emotional stresses that come with running my practice. Through a professional colleague's recommendation, I went to be evaluated and treated by Ian. After taking a history and examination, he was able to locate and successfully treat the soft tissue issues that were leading to the pain I was feeling. His manual skills as a practitioner are second to none. In addition to routinely supplying me with his beneficial forms of soft tissue work, Ian introduced me to his energy work skills and these have been very effective in helping me to balance my emotional stresses as well. Because of the successful care that I have received from Ian since beginning care, I have and will continue to refer patients, friends and family members to him for treatments.
Massage Review
— Nancy Valentyn
I met Ian approximately 3 years ago. At that time, I was experiencing significant reduced range of motion in my left shoulder due to a mastectomy from 12 years ago. After 2 sessions with Ian, I achieved complete range of motion! I also have a significantly handicapped daughter who cannot stand, walk, see or hear (without the use of hearing aids). The physical and emotional demands required for her care are challenging. Ian has been instrumental in alleviating my upper and lower back pain caused by lifting her. He has also provided me with recommendations for breathing and relaxation techniques to reduce the stress I experience. Ian is an extremely knowledgeable and effective massage therapist who cares deeply about improving the quality of life for his clients, both mind and body. His ability to diagnose and treat the "whole person" is second to none! As a result of my work with Ian, I am better able to deal with the daily physical and emotional demands I encounter.
Massage Testimonial
— Zular Rodriguez
Before visiting Ian I went to many different doctors, physical therapists, and received cortisone shot for the pain in my arm. A friend recommended Ian to me. I was desperate for some help and I gave him a try. I started seeing Ian weekly as he massaged and used energy work to begin healing on my arm. During the sessions I was able to get to a place of deep relaxation. I felt some relief even after the first session. He recommended a support brace to wear while I worked in my office. The most significant part of my healing was his recommendation to begin a meditation practice. This put me in touch with a group in my community that helped settle my mind and open my heart. I continued to see Ian for a few months and now my arm and elbow are completely healed.
Reiki Review
— Brandilynn Kupsky
Through Ian I was introduced to the world of meditation and beyond. Before working with him, I knew there was "something more" I was searching for, but didn't know what it was or how to get there. Over the years, he has presented many spiritual tools and avenues I didn't know existed, and may not have found on my own. Since beginning my spiritual journey, though not the easiest one, discovering and living who I truly am has by far been the most rewarding.
Reiki Client
— Donna Stelter
I was drawn to work with Ian for spiritual growth and energy work. Being a busy, working mom with two teenagers, I often disregarded my own self care, not feeling important enough to take the time for me. I remember one of my first sessions with Ian, he worked a great deal on my abdominal area. Over the next few weeks I could feel the shift within my conscious mind, how I was making better, mindfulness choices about how I thought about myself, and the choices of what I put into my body. Often times when I was in "crisis" Ian, without hesitation, would fit me into his schedule. He always made feel like my "issues" were worth caring for. Ian's sessions are always very personal and individualized, not a routine but a true caring for the soul.
